Position: Graduate Design Engineer

The Role:

The Graduate Engineer will assist with the preparation of calculations, drawings and details required by the Design/Principal Engineers. As the Graduate Engineer’s experience grows, the role will evolve to taking responsibility for delivery of small projects, more involved structural design/scheme work, and achieving Chartership Status. 


Specific Experience, Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to analysis & design steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures to the relevant codes and standards (e.g., European, British)
  • Ability to analysis & design foundations & geotechnical structures. 
  • Familiar with using engineering software such as Statica, Axis VM FEM Modelling, Tekla Tedds. 
  • Good report & technical writing skills.
  • Capable of preparing design calculations to be used in Building Control Submissions on assigned projects. 
  • Good team worker, liaising with the Design & Principal Engineers in the preparation of structural drawings and details. 
  • Ensure all work to be carried out with a positive attitude, both in design and in the office environment. 
  • Focused on achieving IStructE Chartership Status within 5 years of qualification.  


Duties:

  • Production of detailed design work for Design & Principal Engineering Staff. 
  • Undertake elemental design tasks, which may include calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports.
  • Work with CAD/Revit Technicians for production of projects drawings.
  • Attend design meetings, site meetings and carry out site inspections.
  • Take guidance from Senior Staff and contribute to overall project delivery/success. 
  • Ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct and completed in accordance with design codes of practice.

The successful candidate 

  • Minimum MEng (Hons) University Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Work Placement or post qualification experience beneficial.
  • Focused on achieving IStructE chartered status with 5 years post qualification experience.
  • Effective time-management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Effective communicator and problem solver.
  • Ability to liaise with members of design / construction teams.
