The Role:
The Principal Engineer will be essential to successful delivery of projects to budget and timescales. As the Practice grows the Principal Engineer will be responsibility for leading a team of engineers & designers.
Specific experience, skills & knowledge:
- Competent with all relevant codes and standards (e.g., European, British)
- Competent in preparing Structural Scheme Designs & Associated Design Calculations.
- Preparation of Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Material takes offs, Scopes of Work, Technical reports, Inter discipline design coordination and supervision
- Liaise with Designers in the preparation of CAD drawings, typically using, Revit, AutoCAD.
- Lead Structural Design & liaise with other disciplines to accommodate their requirements.
- Provide technical support to more less experienced members of the team.
- Analysis and Design of foundations & geotechnical structures.
- Analysis and Design using engineering software such as Statica, Axis VM FEM Modelling, Tekla Tedds.
- Support development of lessons learnt database
- Ensure all work to be carried out with a positive attitude, both in design and in the office environment
Duties:
- Managing the delivery of projects, acting as lead within a multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain client contact and ensure that project delivery meets the client’s objectives and requirements.
- Ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct and completed in accordance with agreed timescales and budgets.
- Undertake project delivery tasks, which may include calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports.
- Provide technical guidance, support and training to colleagues and assist, where practicable, in mentoring and development of others.
- Work in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines.

The successful candidate
- Minimum MEng (Hons) University Degree in Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years’ post qualification experience in busy structural engineering practice.
- IStructE Chartered.
- Previous experience in leading project teams and delivering projects within budget.
- A proactive client-focused approach and ability to build working client relationships.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage team to meet project deadlines.
- Effective communicator and problem solver, and must be commercially aware.
- Ability to liaise with members of design/construction teams
