The Role:
The Design Engineer will assist with the delivery of projects lead by the Principal Engineer & Company Director. As the Design Engineer’s experience grows, the role will evolve to taking responsibility for successful delivery of small to medium sized projects to budget & timescale.
Specific Experience, Skills & Knowledge
- Analysis and Design of steel, concrete, masonry, timber structures to the relevant codes and standards (e.g., European, British)
- Analysis and Design of foundations & geotechnical structures.
- Analysis and Design using engineering software such as Statica, Axis VM FEM Modelling, Tekla Tedds.
- Preparation of Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Material takes offs, Scopes of Work, Technical reports, Inter discipline design coordination and supervision
- Prepare design calculations, design to wind loads, developing design sketches and pass relevant information to designers as required on assigned projects.
- Liaise with Designers in the preparation of CAD drawings, typically using, Revit, AutoCAD.
- Liaise with other disciplines to accommodate their requirements and with the Design Team in the preparation of structural drawings and details
- Support development of lessons learnt database
- Ensure all work to be carried out with a positive attitude, both in design and in the office environment
Duties:
- Production of detailed design work for the Principal Engineer & Company Director.
- Undertake project delivery tasks, which may include calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports.
- Work with CAD/Revit Technicians for production of projects drawings.
- Lead design meetings, site meetings and carry out site inspections.
- Mentor and guide graduate /junior engineers
- Work in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines and with staff internally.
- Maintain client contact and ensure that project delivery meets the client’s objectives and requirements.
- Ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct and completed in accordance with design codes of practice.
- Lead & deliver small to medium sized projects, commensurate with level of experience, within budget.

The successful candidate
- Minimum MEng (Hons) University Degree in Structural Engineering
- Minimum 3 years’ broad post qualification experience in a competitive working environment.
- Focused on achieving IStructE chartered status with 5 years post qualification experience.
- A client-focused approach with effective time-management skills
- Ability to work under pressure.
